In accordance with its philosophy of human-centered life healthcare, all of the daytime 4-year university students and 5-year junior college students are required to fulfill 4-credit humanism curriculum, while the daytime 2-year university students, evening school students, and on-the-job program students take 2 credits. This curriculum is composed of 4 parts—self, life, nature, and society. To deepen learning effects, a variety of teaching activities are designed to attain the goals--to guide students to experiencing and reflection, which further understanding self, compassion for life, knowing nature, and respecting others. |

1. In the cooking competition of 2006 Chinese Cuisine Demonstration in Taipei, Associate Professor Wu Sung-lien of Food Science and Nutrition Department and Associate Professor Liao Ching-hsing of Hotel and Restaurant Management Department, and the competitors Kuo Tzeng-hsiang, Yang Sheng-kai, Chou Yien-ting and Chen Chang-sheng and Lin Chun-shang of Hospitality Management Department won the Gold Prize of Campus Team. 2. The senior students Wu Chang-lin and Chuang Hung-chi of Food Science and Nutrition Department and the junior student Huang Kuan-da of Food and Applied Biotechnology Department were given the excellent award in “2006 Competition of National Undergraduate Projects in Technological & Vocational Education.” 3. Associate Professor Wu Sung-lien of Food Science and Applied Biotechnology Department, Associate Professor Liao Ching-hsing of Hotel and Restaurant Department and the student Mr. Huang Wun-da of Food Science and Nutrition Department participated in 2006 International Culinary Competition of Beijing and were awarded the Gold Plate in Individual Cold Dish , the Gold Plate in Individual Hot Dish and the Special Gold Plate in Individual Baking. 4. Nien Yu-pei was awarded the first place in the tryout competition of the 9th (2007) World Martial Arts for the Chinese Taipei representative team. 5. In the 9th (2007) FHC of Shanghai International Culinary Art Competition, Associate Professor Liao Ching-hsing was awarded the Gold Plate on Vegetarian Cooking, the Silver Plate on Meat Cooking and Innovative Asian Flavor Cooking, and thus was awarded the Excellent Chef Award by this committee in 2007. The students of Hotel and Restaurant Management Department won 4 plates altogether, too. 6 The students Lu Chieh-hsiang, Chen Hsing-hung, and Lin Ying-Ming of Computer Science and Information Engineering Department were awarded the Design Completeness Prize by the Ministry of Education in the 96th academic year (2007) National College Embedded System(ES)Design Competition System Software Team. 7 The teacher-student team of Hotel and Restaurant Management Department beat against nationwide elites and won the Special God Cup in the championship cup of “2008 Taiwan Cuisine Exposition” Culinary Competition. 8 The junior student Yeh Kuo-tzen of Hotel and Restaurant Management Department participated in 2008 Kaohsiung International Vegetarian Culinary Competition and were awarded the third place in the professional section of Vegetable & Fruit Carving Still Demonstration. 9 The sophomore students Chuang Kun-yien and Lin Yu-ting of Hotel and Restaurant Management Department participated in 2008 Taiwan Pork Chop Festival and won the second place in the society section. 10 The teacher Mr. Tzeng Chin-ching of Hotel and Restaurant Management Department led and advised the team to win the first and second places in the first (2008) National Regimen & Health Protection Dish Culinary Competition. 11 Both Associate Professor Wu Hsung-lien and the senior student Yang Sheng-kai of Food Science and Nutrition Department were awarded the Gold Plate in 2008 IKA Olympic World Culinary Cup in Germany. 12 Assistant Professor Cheng Chin-ching of Hotel and Restaurant Management Department participated in “2009 International Saloon Cuisine Competition” held by WACS and were awarded a Silver Plate, a Bronze Plate, and 4 Excellent Work . 13 The four students Hsu Ya-hui, Yi Shih-yi, Dai Yu-hsuan, and Hsu Shan-min of Cultural Development Department participated in the project “Innovative Commercialization Competition—Nationwide University Finals” held by Center for Teaching and Learning Resources in Central Taiwan on Saturday March 14, 2009 and were awarded the third place for the Group Section. 14 The student Lin Chi-hsiang of Hotel and Restaurant Management Department participated in “2009 Taiwan’s Watermelon Festival” on May 2009 and was awarded the champion in the Watermelon Carving Competition-Campus Section. 15 The students Yang Sheng-kai of Food Science and Applied Biotechnology Department and Yeh Kuo-tzen of Restaurant and Hotel Department participated in Asia’s 1st Culinary Cup” on September 1st -5th 2009 held at the Siam Paragon Mall in Bangkok, THAILAND. There were more than 30 countries participating in this competition, which was an imitation of International Olympics. In the items of Free Style Fruit & Vegetable Carving Show Piece, the student Yang Sheng-kai of Food Science and Applied Biotechnology was awarded the one and only Super Gold Cup with full marks and a Gold Plate. The student Yeh Kuo-tzen of Restaurant and Hotel Management Department was awarded a Gold Plate. Both obtained the glories for our country. |

Future Developmental Visions
(1)March toward an exquisite technological university
The present campus, equipment and buildings of this school are qualified for developing into an exquisite technological university. Since it has been generally surveyed that a large-scale technological university can no longer coexist with the developmental trend of higher education in our country, this school shall march toward an exquisite development in the future. The number of students in our school is estimated to be approximately 13,000, and the number of departments shall be maintained at 4-6 colleges, under which there are 3 to 6 departments/ institutes. This way, our school’s campus, dorms and buildings, equipment and the student-teacher ratio can achieve their perfection and maintain high level so as to be true to its name.
(2)Establish and strengthen the characteristics ad functioning of departments and colleges
There are 5 colleges, 16 departments and 7 institutes in our school in the 98th academic year. According to realistic needs, our school shall not only add more colleges/departments/ institutes but also gradually strengthen software and hardware facilities and synthesized cooperation among them. With a view to “serving the human holistic health of body, mind, and spirit, and combining humanistic development with technological development in balance” as our core, our school aims to bring out each and every academic characteristic, achieve the ideal of combining technology and humanity, and fashion our school’s totalistic distinguishing features.
(3)Equally emphasize the educational quality of both undergraduate and graduate programs
In accordance with high-tech developmental trend and cultivate the technological talents needed by our nation, our school shall continue to reinforce both of the undergraduate and graduate educations and gradually add graduate and postgraduate programs in the future.
(4)Propel the industry-service research and development center
Located in Taichung County, our school, a vital technological university in central coastline, shall cooperate closely with the related industries of the industrial parks and scientific parks in central Taiwan in aspects of teaching and learning, research, technical serve, extensional education based on the industrial needs and addressing local needs. Therefore, our school shall take into consideration local industrial and commercial development and needs before establishing new departments and institutes and designing curriculum in order to serve the local and become the technological extension and technical service center in central Taiwan.
(5)Cement our school’s excellent image and develop into a first-rate technological university
Actively participating in both domestic and foreign academic cultural and educational activities and developing into a first-rate technological university, our school is located in central Taiwan and takes a broad view into the globe. We shall endeavor to establish domestic publicity and academic reputation in order to team up with domestic and foreign first-rate universities through the participation in both domestic and foreign academic cultural and educational activities and embody both of the faculty and the students with abilities to take part in the international affairs and thus highlighting our school’s excellent image.
(6)Reinforce the international and cross-strait academic exchange and global perspective
Many activities are actively held to promote students’ related global perspective to enable them to obtain diverse accesses into international information and thus broaden their global perspectives. A variety of related activities and measures shall be conducted incessantly. Furthermore, our school expands recruiting foreign students to execute the projects of allying with sister schools, academic coalition, and the cooperation projects of exchange students. The excellent faculty of sister schools shall be invited to teach, do research, and co-advise the theses and dissertations of graduate students and post-graduate students.
